Project Log #1 — Back to work!

Hi! After a much-needed hiatus, welcome to Infinite Revolution's first project log! These will be monthly updates (posted within the first week of each month) that recap what I've been working on for the game in the last 30 days, Kickstarter logistics, and any other important info I think backers should know. I don't plan on these being especially long or involved—I do want to collate my thoughts on writing an RPG and getting it crowdfunded into some longer-form articles at some point, but Kickstarter updates aren't the place for that. I these to be punchy, to-the-point, and make it clear what I'm working on and how it's going. 

So:

  • Since I took a break from most IR-related stuff this month, I don't have much in the way of a recap for October's writing progress. This month, I'll be focusing on finalizing some of the changes I introduced in the Quickstart version of the game (new Drive Patterns, the new Sparks system, and so on) and getting them text-complete.
  • I hope to have a fully-playable ashcan version of Overdrive Edition (distinct from the quickstart; full character creation rules; available for backers only) ready by the new year.
  • Late pledges are live on the IR Backerkit store! If you know someone who missed the campaign but is still interested in IR, you can direct them here. If all goes well, Backerkit orders should be fulfilled at the same time as regular pledges, and the store should be available until i actually print the books (so probably sometime this this spring).

NOTE: If you are a BACKER and want to add additional items to your pledge, you do NOT need to make a separate order through the pre-order store! You can wait until Backerkit surveys go out and select your add-ons there. If you place a separate order through the pre-order store and that order has physical goods, you may be double-charged for shipping!

  • Speaking of surveys—there's been some funky stuff on Backerkit's end that's delayed them more than I would like, but I should be sending out surveys to most backers by the end of the month!

And that's a wrap! With 802 backers and over 850% of our initial goal, INFINITE REVOLUTION: OVERDRIVE is FUNDED (and then some!) 

So, now, what's next? Here's an overview.

  • In the short term, not much. After this update posts, I'm going to be taking a few weeks off from Kickstarter/social media stuff to enjoy the fall weather, hang with loved ones, and generally give myself a break, but plan to be back by late October. I might update the Kickstart preview on itch here and there + will be working to get late pledge/backerkit stuff set up in the background, but won't be around much as a Project Manager™ otherwise.
  • In the mid term, I'll be finalizing Backerkit options and enabling late pledging! You can expect an update on that by the end of this month, and that same update is where I'll lay out a more concrete newsletter schedule going forward.
  • In the long term—time to get started! I'll be digging in to test and iterate on the game's mechanics, run playtests, and generally tune things up through this month, the next, and beyond. I'll also be publishing a series of postmortems on my experience running a first-time Kickstarter: things that went well, things I would have done differently and the (many, many) things that surprised me! No timeline on that yet, but I'll keep you posted.

As a reminder, project fulfillment is scheduled for July-August 2024—you can expect shipping surveys and similar to go out sometime in the early summer of next year, so don't sweat the details on that too much for now. You have a while!

The KICKSTART preview edition is OUT!

Very quick (but very exciting) update: the free preview edition of IR has been released! It's live on itch.io right here.

I'll be updating, revising, and expanding on the QS version as I develop the full game, so expect updates in the future!

Secret Stretch Goal REVEAL!

With 3 days to go, we've rocketed past our final, FINAL stretch goal for the campaign! This is a fun one, and I'm really excited to share it with you.

This is a brand-new, mysterious, space-warping Drive Core player option that will be released as a standalone PDF for ALL BACKERS, regardless of pledge tier! Additionally, it'll be available on a different timeline than the other stretch goals—you'll receive it at the same time as the core book, ready to use in your games right away!  This is my way of thanking everyone who's shown interest in INFINITE REVOLUTION and contributed to this campaign flying as high as it has. I hope you like it!

One Week To Go!! + Quickstart Update

We've come so far <3

Just one week until funding concludes on October 5th! This whole campaign has been an incredible ride and (at risk of repeating myself!) I'm extremely grateful you all decided to embark on it with me. We're on pace to hit our 7th and final stretch goal by the end of the campaign run—and from there, it's only a short jump to 700% funding! Wild-ass number. Absurd. Thank you <3

Now, the meat of this update: I've been working away at the quickstart rules for the better part of this month and the last, but thanks to some life circumstances I'm going to have to push back my proposed release date a bit: the quickstart is now slated for early October.

I'm still going to do everything in my power to release the quickstart ASAP, ideally before the campaign ends—I think it's important for prospective backers to get at least a preview of what to expect before they confirm their pledge! Until then, thanks for bearing with me, and for, well, everything else.
